The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Crime Lab Associate, Assistant, job code 90305, job vacancy number #08-008.

Under broad supervision, this position functions as a Technical Leader in the Firearms Identification Section of the Division of Forensic Sciences, providing technical and analytical guidance in the area of Firearms Identification, on a statewide basis. The position is located at GBI Headquarters in Decatur, Georgia.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of forensic laboratory experience at a level equivalent to Crime Laboratory Scientist 3 (total 4 years forensic laboratory experience equivalent to Crime Lab Scientist). Must have demonstrated competencies in effective oral and written communications, interpersonal skills, decision-making and problem solving skills, team building and customer service. Must be flexible.
NOTE: Bachelor’s degree must have included the successful completion of at least two (2) science courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above:

•Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science OR Forensic Science from an accredited college or university.
•Experience as a qualified firearms and toolmark examiner in an accredited forensic laboratory in the field of firearms examination, with a current (i.e., within the past year) and successfully completed proficiency test in both firearms and toolmarks.

Position is Full-Time. Salary Range:$50,652.96/yr - $66,103.92/yr
