Firearms and Tool marks examiner trainee
« on: August 24, 2004, 12:07:42 PM »
My name is Karin Athanas and I am a recent graduate of George Washington University with a Master's in Forensic Science. I  am currently working in Virginia as a Labortory Specialist in a Firearms and Toolmarks Unit and am receiving training in the examination of firearms and toolmarks evidence.

I attended the 2005 AFTE conference in Indianapolis, ID and am now registered for the 2006 AFTE conference in Boston, Mass. I am registered for several classes and look forward to meeting other examiners in the field.

I am seeking a full-time position in the Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia or New England area and hope in the future to become a court qualified Firearms and Toolmarks Examiner. I have attached my resume and would be happy to answer any questions upon request.

Updated Resume
To interested parties,

I have recently updated this post.  I am looking for a Firearms and Toolmarks position in the New England area (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island) to start sometime in the summer or later.

I am currently working as a Forensic Laboratory Specialist III for the Virginia Department of Forensic Sciences in the Firearms and Toolmarks section. In my current position, I am working cases under the supervision of my supervisor as well as maintaining the equipment and performing audits on section evidence storage and chemical inventories. I am a trained NIBIN technician and am responsible for the entry and review of all evidence in my section. I am hard working and dedicated and would like to pursue a career as a Firearms and Toolmarks examiner, but would also consider a training position in either Latent prints or Questioned Documents.

I have attached an updated resume. Any interested parties can contact me at the listed email address or phone number. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
